Mac OS X Lion Adds Support for Yahoo Video And Voice Chat

has added support for Yahoo and Audio in iChat app as reported by Apple Insider. Earlier, iChat supported Jabber/AOL , google and Apple’s own iChat server. In Lion, Apple included Yahoo as an account type which operates it’s own proprietary protocol and doesn’t support cross with AOL or Jabber, although Microsoft and Yahoo have created a gateway between their two networks.

After Android, it seems that Apple is trying to decrease its dependencies over Google and want to become more dependent on Microsoft and Yahoo in iOS (Safari) as well as Desktop. However, Adding video calling in Yahoo messanger is a clear indication that Apple wants to promote Facetime through video support.

The company has also renamed iSight Camera as ‘Facetime’ and distributing it through Mac App Store.
