Android Leads US Smartphone Space By Considerable Margin
New data from analytics firm Nielsen and comScore has just reaffirmed the place of Android OS as the dominant smartphone in the US. It was just last year that another research firm Canalys had reported about Android pipping Apple’s iOS laden iPhone by quite a margin in spite of high sales figures of the iPhone 4. According to Nielsen, Android powered devices now form 29% of all smartphones in the US. This is followed by RIM at 27%. Apple’s iOS is a close third – also at 27% with a few points separating it and RIM. comScore’s figure puts the Android figures at a slightly highly percentile with it having 31.2 percent share of the U.S. smartphone market. Again, BlackBerry comes in at second spot with 31.2 per cent marketshare. Apple’s iOS comes in at 24.7 percent.

To make things sound better for both RIM and iOS, Nielsen adds that RIM and Android are still doing well as standalone platforms. This is unlike Android which has devices made by a lot of manufacturers. The individual sales percentages for top Android manufacturers are as follows. HTC held the top place with 12 percent market share, followed by Motorola (10 percent), and Samsung (5 percent).
